Not all hydroxyapatite is equal. Clockwork uses Fluidinova's nanoXIM·CarePaste (Portugal) — the only nano-hydroxyapatite in the world approved as safe for oral care by the European SCCS (Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety). Our nHAp particles are rod-shaped, measuring 30–40nm in length and 5–10nm in width, with 95.8% of particles maintaining an aspect ratio under 3. This matters because rod-shaped particles are proven safe and effective for remineralisation — unlike needle-shaped nanoparticles, which the SCCS safety approval explicitly does not cover. With 10% nanoXIM·CarePaste concentration in our adult flavours and 5% nanoXIM·CarePaste in our Kids + Adults range, Clockwork fills microscopic enamel cracks, restores lost minerals, and strengthens teeth from within.

Every Clockwork flavour starts with whole botanicals — peppermint leaves, vanilla beans, watermelon rind — steam-distilled in small batches to extract pure essential oils. No artificial sweeteners, no synthetic flavour compounds, no "natural identical" shortcuts. Steam distillation uses nothing but heat and water vapour to gently separate volatile aromatic oils from the plant. Yes, we use a small amount of carrageenan as a natural thickener. Carrageenan is a seaweed-derived ingredient widely used in food and oral care. The type used in toothpaste (iota-carrageenan) has been reviewed by regulatory bodies globally and is considered safe for oral-care use. It is not swallowed in meaningful quantities during normal brushing.
The single biggest cost is the nano-hydroxyapatite itself. We source nanoXIM·CarePaste from Fluidinova (Portugal), whose continuous hydrothermal process produces consistently rod-shaped particles under 100 nm — a specification most suppliers cannot match. The raw material, REACH registration, and quality control behind that spec cost significantly more than commodity ingredients. We also keep the formula to just 9 ingredients, which means no cheap fillers to bring the unit cost down.
Nano-hydroxyapatite is a calcium phosphate — the same mineral your teeth are made of — so incidental swallowing during brushing is not a concern in the way fluoride ingestion can be. That said, we recommend adult supervision for children under six, and using a pea-sized amount, as with any toothpaste.
